New Milestones: Announcing Alcion’s Series A and General Availability of Our AI-driven Backup-as-a-Service Platform

Dear Alcion community,

Today, Vaibhav Kamra and I are thrilled to announce two significant milestones in Alcion's journey – we have secured $21M in our Series A funding round led by Veeam, an industry leader in data protection, and we are announcing the General Availability of our AI-driven Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) platform for Microsoft 365. This funding round brings the total raised to $29M, paving the way for the next phase of our mission to securely protect all your data.

Since our emergence from stealth mode in May, we’ve been blown away by the customer interest in Alcion. We’ve seen a 700% increase in organizations harnessing the power of our platform to protect their business-critical data stored in Microsoft 365, making us stewards of a petabyte of managed logical backups. This trust has propelled us to the milestones we’re announcing today, and we are incredibly grateful to our amazing customers who have believed in our vision and capabilities.

As some of you know, we started Alcion because we realized that increased threats from ransomware and malware required rethinking data protection from scratch. It is no longer a question of if a data mishap will occur, but when. That's why, at Alcion, we've made it our mission to become the safeguard against both malicious attacks and accidents .

The general availability of the Alcion platform contains industry-leading, AI-driven ransomware detection designed to not only use multiple models and continuously learn from user behavior, but also to operate at a per-user and per-file level to detect ransomware. These features, which bring immense value to our customers, are capabilities that legacy incumbents believe are impractical at scale. Since 94% of ransomware attacks start by trying to destroy backup repositories, we also support delayed backup deletion and XDR integration for early warning signals. Dig into this accompanying blog post to understand how our AI-driven approach to ransomware detection can work for you.

While cyberthreat protection is one of the major components of this release, there are several other significant features we have shipped over the last couple of months. The highlights include our listing on the Microsoft Azure Marketplace, compliance scores to see your protection status at a glance, activity insights and recommendations, global service availability, and more. You can read more in today’s press release or see this live in our latest demo video.

Looking ahead, we're deepening our data security focus, improving product functionality, and expanding our platform’s global footprint. Additionally, we will add more features tailored for our managed service provider (MSP) customers and broaden our data protection horizons to encompass other critical SaaS services beyond Microsoft 365.

Of course, everything we’ve shared thus far wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing team behind Alcion. From our engineers and developers to our marketers and product teams, — their dedication, expertise, and hard work have brought our vision to life. It is truly a privilege and a pleasure to work with this amazing group!

To our investors, your support and belief in our potential has been critical to our success. We thank you for standing by us, for your unqualified support and encouragement, and for fueling our aspirations.

To the open-source Corso community – your feedback, contributions, and belief in a community-driven approach has been energizing! Together, we will continue to shape a world where your Microsoft 365 data remains protected, accessible, and secure.

Finally, if you are a Microsoft 365 admin, we would love to hear from you! Please try Alcion (it's free for 14 days, no credit card required) and then join our Discord to give us feedback. I promise I will respond personally to your questions and suggestions. If you want to leave signing up for Discord for another day, you can also sign up for our mailing list below to stay updated.
